Autobiography of a Wristwatch

I am a beautiful thing that has diamonds on it and shows time. Guess who am I? I am a pretty watch. My present life is so dreadful and appalling. It is such a contrast to my early life which was filled with bliss and happiness. Now they are only memories.

I was born in a factory. I am golden in color and I have diamonds in me after every line. Technicians put the battery in me, set the correct time and packed me. They dispatched me to a big departmental store in Vile Parle called Alfa. I was displayed in a glass window. Many girls passed by and admired me. They wanted to buy me but I was too expensive. I was for Rs. 24,000. Now I was almost 3 months in the display box and I was getting bored in it. After an hour, I saw a girl coming out of a Ferrari car. I saw a man also coming out of the other door of the car. He was an actor and the girl was his daughter. He had come to buy her a present for it was her birthday today. While coming in she saw me and liked me very much, and told her father to buy me. They went in and bought me. I was so delighted to come out of the display box. We went in her Ferrari car to her house. She quickly showed me to her mother. Her mother told her to wear me the next day for her birthday party. Her name was Dipika. She took me to her room and kept me in my cupboard. After a while she went to sleep. The next day she removed and wore me. The party was in her house. Her house was decorated very well. There was a theme to become cartoon characters. She became a fairy with a wand, her hair tied like a bun and me in her hand. All her friends started coming one by one. They played many games. I slipped from her hand, fell on the ground and broke. She saw me broken and started crying. Her mom quickly picked me up and cheered her. She told Dipika to go back and enjoy the party and that; she would buy her a new watch. While Dipika’s mother was drinking water, she accidently dropped water on me and I lost all my beauty. She put me in her purse. After the party she put the purse in the cupboard. She never removed the purse again. During Diwali, she cleaned her cupboard. She saw the purse and opened it. She saw ma all spoilt, so, she gave the purse to the maid with me in it. The servant opened the purse and saw me, and gave me to her daughter. But, her daughter couldn’t understand that my battery was over. So she threw me in the gutter.

I hope somebody removes me out of this dirty gutter and clean me. Life feels worse than death. I have survived many miseries. I hope in future life has some happiness in store for me.
